Where to buy supplies:
This is the list of Soho brand acrylic paints: Paints Those marked with an “X” are those I most often use, especially for Southwest paintings.
Explanation of Brushes:
Your tools are VERY important. You will have a difficult time, and it won’t be much fun, if you don’t have the correct tools. We will talk about brushes in class! I would advise you NOT to buy very many brushes until you come to class.
The typical artists’ paint or pigment color wheel includes the blue, red, and yellow primary colors. The corresponding secondary colors are green, orange, and violet or purple.
See 2nd color wheel for Hue, Tint, Tone and Shade.
Sealing an Acrylic Painting:
Click “Seal” for details about sealing an acrylic painting.
Homemade Texture Paste/Medium:
I use Spackle + school glue (Elmer’s or any school glue.) I buy a small container of Spackle and add about 1 teaspoon of glue. Stir. You may add a tiny bit of water to get it to the consistency you want. The glue causes a chemical reaction and the Spackle will stay flexible and not crack. Do not use too much glue…or it becomes too runny to use.
Other Helpful Items:
- Paper towels or paper napkins
- Styrofoam plates and bowls
- Old terry-cloth towels/wash cloths
- Inexpensive larger paint brushes
- Separate brush for sealing
